Recovery Resources
Southeast Kansas Recovery Resources is a working coalition comprised of agency and/or organization representatives as well as community members at large, located within Southeast Kansas. Members work together to address a variety of issues surrounding substance use disorder (SUD), opioid use disorder (OUD) and addiction.
The SEK Recovery Resources Coalition, supported by HRSA RCORP funds and independent donors, has made significant strides in providing drug prevention services to school districts, trauma-informed care trainings for agencies, overdose prevention training, and harm reduction supplies to communities in Allen, Bourbon, Coffey, Neosho, Wilson, and Woodson counties. We have distributed naloxone, safe sex kits, wound care kits, and other supplies, facilitated peer support services, hosted educational sessions, approved scholarships for essential needs, and operated the SEK Recovery House, offering housing and community service opportunities.

Recovery Housing in Iola, KS
SEK Recovery Housing strives to provide a safe, secure, and healthy living environment that promotes abstinence-based pathways of recovery, improving one’s physical, mental, spiritual, and social wellbeing. We provide peer-led recovery support to individuals during or after treatment programs, as they transition to living independently and productively in their chosen community.

April Jackson
Addiction Prevention & Recovery Resources Director
April Jackson is responsible for day-to-day activities of the Southeast Kansas Substance Misuse Prevention Coalition. April collaborates with workgroup members to implement strategies and ensure continuity and quality of service for a six-county region.
April was born and raised in the Southeast Kansas area. She attended schools in Pittsburg and Shawnee before graduating from Marmaton Valley High School in Moran. She worked and raised her two children, mostly as a single parent, while living in Emporia. April graduated from Emporia State University (2019) with a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in Earth Science and Geospatial Information Systems. April relocated back to her family’s farmstead just outside of Moran in 2021.
April maintains a sober lifestyle since 1999 and is passionate about helping people find recovery and freedom from active addiction. April is a practicing home-herbalist and enjoys making herbal teas and crafts, watching the KC Chiefs, camping, hiking, kayaking, and yoga.

Summer Boren
Community Health Worker
Summer is Thrive’s Community Health Worker. She helps to coordinate the bike share program and other tasks associated with health and wellness. She lends additional time to grant-writing and community engagement.
A graduate of Fort Scott Community College and Ashford University, Summer has a B.A. in Social and Criminal Justice. Summer is a life-long resident of Allen County and a six-year resident of Iola. Before moving to Iola, Summer owned and operated her own salon for ten years and was employed part-time for eight years doing construction and property management.
In her free time, Summer and her husband, Cory, like to spend time with their seven kids and their one granddaughter.
