Thrive Allen County invites you to help us celebrate the first anniversary of the opening of the Southwind Rail Trail, on June 7, 2014!
It was just a year ago that the Southwind Rail Trail Grand Opening took place, with over 150 people coming to Iola and Humboldt to help dedicate the new 6.5-mile rail-to-trail between the two cities.
Now, in conjunction with National Trails Day, we’re hosting a little party for the first birthday.
Meet at both ends of the trail, at the Humboldt Trailhead, and at Iola’s Riverside Park, for hotdogs and cupcakes (freewill donation) at 10am on June 7th. There will also be trail trivia and prizes to be won. (See Facebook event)
For those participating in The Movement Allen County, there will be a MoveMEnt tent checkpoint at Riverside park, at 9:30 am before the open hike and bike. Here, you will be able to check your weight! Make sure you wear your MoveMEnt shirt so we can give you another incentive ticket for chances for prizes in the end! Just come out and get some fresh air and MOVE!
In addition to the Trail Celebration, the Allen County Community Foundation is hosting a Day of Giving on June 7. Its purpose is to bring the county together as one community, raising as much money and awareness as possible for Allen County nonprofits with a 24-hour, flash mob of giving. One hundred percent of proceeds will go directly to participating nonprofits.
You can make a tax-deductible donation to Thrive Allen County, to the Southwind Rail Trail, or to any nonprofit organization in Allen County. On the square in Iola from 9-4 on June 7th, or give online.
