The 2nd annual Portland Alley Marathon is scheduled for November 16th, 2013. Individuals and teams are welcome.
“Portland Alley” is the 26.2 mile corridor from Iola Kansas to Chanute Kansas where Portland cement has been produced since the early 20th century. The event is organized by a coalition of residents from Chanute, Humboldt and Iola who share the goals of improving health conditions in Allen and Neosho counties while demonstrating the benefits of regional cooperation.
The full and half marathons begin on the courthouse square in Iola, traveling down the Prairie Spirit and Southwind Rail Trails to Humboldt. Half marathoners end on the west side of the Humboldt square; full marathoners continue on to the finish line at Chanute’s historic Katy Park. The award ceremony for both full and half marathoners will be held at Katy Park.
Check In 7:30 a.m. until 8:30 a.m in Iola. Limited shuttle service available on request. Race begins at 8:30 a.m.
All aid stations will have water, Gatorade, and gel packs. Fruit (bananas and oranges) will be available at the finish line. Stations will be roughly 3.26 miles apart. Restrooms will be available at Riverside Park, Iowa Rd/Southwind Trail, Humboldt City Hall/School offices, Connecticut Rd, and Katy Park.
