Kansas State of Wellness Awards GROW Allen County

May 25, 2016

The Kansas Alliance for Wellness recently highlighted the Allen County GROW (Growing Rural Opportunities Works) Food and Farm Council in a short video:

Growing Rural Opportunities Work (GROW) Allen County received recognition at the 2016 Convening as a Council, hosted by the Kansas Alliance for Wellness. GROW, in Allen County was an early adopter in establishing a publically appointed council in Kansas. Their council assists in many community and state efforts including: advocating for state level policies during the 2016 legislative session, establishing new or enhancing existing farmers markets and increasing acceptance of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers at farmers markets. In addition the council has developed a SNAP Double-up program at its market. Most recently this council has worked hard to attract a new grocery store to their community.

The Kansas Alliance for Wellness is a statewide network of communities, organizations and individuals that are committed to improving the health of Kansans by creating healthy food and beverage environments. This project began in July 2013, and is led by the American Heart Association.
