May is National Bike Month

May 11, 2018

May is National Bike Month!  Haven’t been on a bike in a while?  No problem!  Our Allen County Bike Share program has free bikes for you to rent, so you can start getting comfortable on a bike again.  Come to one of our locations (in Iola: Thrive Allen County, Allen Community College, Gates Rubber Manufacturing; in Humboldt: the Frame Shop; in Savonburg: Savonburg Public Library), show us a photo id and you’ll have the bike for 24 hours.

Allen County has beautiful trail systems for you to utilize while biking: the Lehigh Portland Trails, the Southwind Rail Trail and the Prairie Spirit Trail all connect to each other.  We encourage you to check them all out!

Would you prefer to bike with a group?  We have multiple bike groups that gather every week.  The Humboldt DQ group rides from Humboldt every Tuesday evening at 6pm (they begin at the Southwind Rail Trail trail head by B&W Trailer Hitches) from Humboldt to Iola and back again.  Bonus with this ride: the group stops at Dairy Queen for their break!  Pick up a sweet treat, meet some fun people and get some great exercise!

If Tuesday nights are not great for you (or maybe you’re lactose intolerant): meet up with the Lehigh Portland Trails mountain biking group on Wednesday nights at 6pm (helmet required).  Want to check out the local bike store?  Join Velo + Iola for their weekly ride that begins at the store at 6:30pm on Thursdays.  Thrive hosts a first Sunday of the month bike ride that meets in front of our office at 1pm.  The Thrive and Velo+ rides are for all skill levels.

We hope you make the most of our beautiful weather and 27+ miles of trails to celebrate National Bike Month!
